The People's Majlis has approved the appointment of Fathimath Ameeza as the Commissioner General of Taxation at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).
Ameeza's appointment was approved during Tuesday's parliamentary sitting, receiving the support of 64 of the 65 members present.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had nominated two candidates for the post: Mohamed Haleem Abdulla and Fathimath Ameeza.
Haleem holds a master's degree in Professional Accountancy from the University of London and currently serves as President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives (CA Maldives).
Ameeza holds a master's degree in Accounting from Monash University, Australia, and currently serves as MIRA's Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation.
The two nominations were reviewed by the Parliament's Economic Affairs Committee, which recommended Ameeza for the position. The People's Majlis approved her appointment following a debate on the committee's report.
