His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, received President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in audience at Lusail Palace in Doha on Monday.

During the audience, President Dr Muizzu conveyed condolences, on behalf of the people of the Maldives, following the passing of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, former Amir of the State of Qatar.

The Amir and the President also reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and Qatar.

President Dr Muizzu is on an official visit to Qatar to pay respects following the passing of the former Amir, whose contributions to the Maldives included supporting the launch of Qatar Airways' operations to the Maldives, the establishment of Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani School in Laamu Atoll, and the construction of Masjid Al Sheikh Qasim bin Al Thani in Hulhumalé.
