The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has closed a premises in Addu City for 90 days after obtaining a court order over allegations that it was being used for drug consumption.
The premises, located in Seenu Maradhoo, was ordered closed by the Maradhoo Magistrate Court from 12 July 2026 under the Drugs Act. Police said it is the first such order issued by the court to close a premises suspected of facilitating drug use.
MPS warned that entering the premises without authorisation during the closure period is a criminal offence and that legal action will be taken against anyone who unlawfully enters or damages the property.
Police also thanked the public for supporting efforts to combat drug-related crime in Addu City, adding that investigations will continue to identify other premises suspected of being used for drug consumption and seek court orders for their closure.
