Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Dr. Abdulla Muttalib has stated that efforts are being made in the project to connect L. Hithadhoo and Kunahandhoo with a causeway to make the bridge-road usable for the public by mid-2028.

The Minister said this while responding to a question asked by MDP member for the Maavah constituency, Ahmed Shakil, regarding the work of the causeway at today's sitting of the People's Majlis.

Responding to the question about when the causeway work started and when it will end, the Minister said that records show the project agreement was signed on January 22, 2023, and mobilized along with machinery on September 2, 2023.

However, the Minister stated that the practical work of the project was started by this administration.

"In this regard, the geotechnical investigation and survey work have been completed, necessary changes have been brought to the design, detailed designs have been approved, and work has now commenced on October 20, 2025,"

The Minister also stated that it is scheduled to complete the work within 500 days and the cost of the work is MVR 81 million.

"According to the contractor's scope, a 390-meter revetment, two bridges of 157.5 meters in length, and a 714-meter-long road will be constructed,"

The Minister said that the work is not progressing at a desirable speed.

"However, efforts are being made to complete the work by mid-2028 and make the road usable for the public."
