The police have launched an investigation into a case where an individual is accused of fraudulently taking money from people by claiming they would secure flats and land plots under the government's housing scheme.

According to the police, the investigation was initiated after the matter regarding the fraudulent acquisition of money on the pretext of arranging housing flats and land plots came to their attention. The police did not disclose the identity of the individual involved in the case.

However, it has been learned that the person who deceptively obtained money from numerous individuals is the former Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Fisheries, Mohamed Yaseen. The victims reportedly include employees of the Ministry of Fisheries, judges, and members of the general public.

He is accused of taking amounts ranging between MVR 200,000 and MVR 400,000 from people under the pretense of providing flats, and more than MVR 3 million from some individuals by promising to secure land plots.

Yaseen was dismissed from his post as soon as the issue came to light.
