Maldives Customs Service has seized drugs worth an estimated MVR 2.7 million that were being smuggled into the Maldives through Velana International Airport (VIA).

Customs said the seizure, made on June 29, included 2.8 kilograms of hashish oil and 740 grams of cannabis.

The authority said the latest operation forms part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking.

Customs noted that it has seized more than MVR 5 million worth of drugs in recent operations, including 3.5 kilograms of synthetic cathinone.

Over the past two and a half years, Customs has seized a total of 324 kilograms of illicit drugs.
