Maldives Customs Service has seized 3.6 kilograms of synthetic cannabis smuggled into the Maldives through the postal service.

Customs said the drugs were discovered during an inspection of a postal shipment that arrived in the country on 18 June.

The seized drugs have an estimated street value of MVR 3.6 million. However, Customs said their value could exceed MVR 5 million.

The agency has been stepping up efforts to prevent drug smuggling across the country's borders and has intercepted several large drug shipments in recent days.
