The People's Majlis has opened the public complaints process for two nominees submitted by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for appointment as Commissioner General of Taxation at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).

The nomination follows the resignation of former Commissioner General and current Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Hassan Zareer.

The two nominees are:

  • Mohamed Haleem Abdulla
  • Fathimath Ameeza

The matter has been referred to the Parliament's Economic Committee for review. The committee aims to complete its assessment by 14 July and has invited the public to submit any complaints regarding either nominee by 2:00 p.m. on 12 July.

Complaints must include the complainant's full name, permanent address and contact number, and may be submitted to the committee by email or in writing through the People's Majlis Secretariat.

Mohamed Haleem holds a master's degree in Professional Accountancy from the University of London and currently serves as President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives (CA Maldives). Fathimath Ameeza holds a master's degree in Accounting from Monash University in Australia and currently serves as MIRA's Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation.
