An 18-year-old man who allegedly fled from a police station after being taken into police custody has been remanded in custody pending the conclusion of his trial.
The suspect has been identified as Adam Ziyaan Mohamed from Kudahuvadhoo.
According to the court order, police said he left the station despite being repeatedly informed that he was not permitted to do so. The order also states that he refused to comply with police instructions, obstructed officers in the course of their duties and acted disruptively at the police premises along with others.
Police argued that obstructing law enforcement officers is a serious offence. Taking the circumstances into consideration, the court ruled that the suspect should remain in remand custody until the case is concluded, citing concerns that his release could pose a risk to the public.
