MDP Chairperson and former President Mohamed Nasheed has stated that he will support whoever wins the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) presidential primary, even if it is someone other than the party's former Chairperson, Fayyaz Ismail.

While Nasheed had previously expressed his public support for Fayyaz to contest the upcoming presidential election as the MDP candidate, he clarified his broader commitment to the democratic process during a press conference today.

Addressing rumors regarding a strained relationship between himself and Fayyaz following the internal party elections, Nasheed dismissed the speculation and maintained that their personal and professional dynamic remains perfectly fine.

"My relationship with Fayyaz is not bad, and there is no reason for it to be bad. I was out of town for a week, so we hadn't met during that time, but I just met with Fayyaz yesterday," Nasheed clarified.Regarding the timeline for the MDP presidential primary, Nasheed noted that the relevant committees and organs of the party will make the official decisions as they move forward.

However, he did not specify an exact date or a tentative timeframe for when the primary election would be scheduled.
