The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has leased a large plot of land to a company named Future Homes Private Limited rent-free for a period of 25 years to construct a warehouse.

According to a statement released by FAM tonight, the land in question is located within the Maafannu Stadium area, which was originally allocated to FAM by the Ministry of Youth and Sports for a 50-year period to execute FIFA Forward Projects. Despite multiple notices instructing Future Homes to vacate the property, the company has refused to clear the site, prompting FAM to initiate legal proceedings.

FAM revealed that the sub-agreements for these warehouse plots were made without obtaining the required permissions from FIFA, involved unauthorized alterations to architectural plans, and were never officially approved by the FAM Executive Committee (ExCo) of that time. The specific plot granted to Future Homes measures 2,700 square feet and was configured to allow the construction of a two-story structure.

The company is registered under the name of former prominent Maldivian football player Ibrahim Fazeel (Oppo). The 25-year rent-free lease was reportedly granted as compensation for waste clearing services valued at MVR 1.8 million allegedly provided by the company.

However, FAM highlighted that there is no existing prior agreement or official documentation on record to verify or support this claim. The lease was finalized on January 1, 2023, under the leadership of former FAM President Bassam Adeel Jaleel. Furthermore, FAM noted that both the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure and the Malé City Council have confirmed that Future Homes constructed the warehouse facility without obtaining any official permits or architectural approvals from the relevant state authorities.
