Lamha has been sentenced to 15 years and four months in prison for his role in the 2021 murder of Filipino nurse Mary Grace.
The Criminal Court sentenced Halimath Lamha to 15 years for participating in the murder, three months for unauthorised use of property, and one month for failing to obtain a permit. More than three years he has already spent in detention will be deducted from his sentence.
The sentence was handed down shortly after Mary Grace's husband, Marvin S.Y. Vargas, was jailed for 25 years for the killing.
During the trial, prosecutors said Lamha was involved in the murder to further his relationship with Marvin. They also said Lamha took the couple's infant son to another house while the murder took place, describing the act as particularly cruel.
Lamha asked the court to reduce her sentence and transfer her to house arrest so he could care for her mother and earn an income. However, Judge Muzammil Nasir rejected the request, saying Lamha had attempted to cover up Mary Grace's death and her involvement in the crime.
Mary Grace was killed at her home in October 2021. Her death was initially reported as a suicide by hanging, but a police investigation later revealed it was a premeditated murder.
