Marvin S.Y Vargas has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of wife, Filipino nurse Mary Grace after the court found him guilty of intentionally killing her.

The Criminal Court found Marvin guilty on June 22 of fatally stabbing Mary Grace in the head and neck at their residence on Oct. 19, 2021.

After the incident, Marvin took Mary Grace's body to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and told staff that she had died by suicide. Police later launched an investigation after finding suspicious circumstances surrounding her death, leading to his arrest on Oct. 21, 2021.

During the sentencing hearing, the defence requested the minimum sentence. However, Judge Muzammil Nasir imposed a 25-year prison term, citing the brutality of the crime, Marvin's attempt to conceal the killing, and the fact that the victim's child had been deprived of his mother's love.

Marvin has already spent four years, six months and four days in custody, which will be deducted from his sentence. He has 20 years, three months and five days left to serve.
