The Parliament's Committee on National Security (241 Committee) has approved a change to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) policy that will end VIP security for former presidents during protests.

The amendment was proposed by PNC MP Abdulla Shareef and was passed unanimously during the committee meeting held on Tuesday.

Opposition members, including MDP MP Abdul Gafoor Moosa, MNP MP Mohamed Nazim and MP Abdul Hannan Aboobacker, opposed the proposed change.
