Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Heena Waleed has stated that a total of 4.1 million MVR was spent on the activities held last year under the "Minivan 60" banner to commemorate the 60th Independence Day of the Maldives.
The Minister disclosed this during today's sitting of the People's Majlis, responding to a question posed by the opposition MDP Member of Parliament for the Galolhu North constituency. The MP had requested a detailed breakdown of the total expenditure alongside details of how the celebrations were conducted in the atolls, including the specific costs incurred for regional events.
In her response, Minister Heena clarified that no official activities or events related to the "Minivan 60" milestone were carried out in the atolls outside the capital area.
The "Minivan 60" campaign last year originally kicked off with a public competition to design a special logo, which awarded a prize of MVR 30,000 to the winner. Ultimately, the celebratory activities—which featured vibrant float parades and traditional cultural games—were held exclusively across Malé and Hulhumalé.
