Four Indian nationals have been arrested for attempting to smuggle one kilogram of drugs into the Maldives. The arrests include the individual who brought the narcotics into the country and three others who arrived to collect the shipment.

According to the remand orders issued by the Criminal Court, the contraband was smuggled into the Maldives hidden inside luggage upon arrival. All four suspects, who are Indian nationals, were arrested yesterday. The individuals have been identified as:

  • Amit Kumar (36): The individual who smuggled the drugs into the Maldives.
  • Akash Yadav (36): One of the individuals who went to collect the drugs.
  • Anil Kumar (26): One of the individuals who went to collect the drugs.
  • Rahul Mishad (23): One of the individuals who went to collect the drugs.

The court documents confirm that the seized drugs weigh one kilogram and that law enforcement authorities successfully executed a controlled delivery operation to apprehend the group.

The Maldives Police Service has previously highlighted that cases involving the smuggling of narcotics from India into the Maldives have been on the rise.
