President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has confirmed that the Government has no plans to introduce toll fees on the Thilamale' Bridge connecting Malé, Vilimalé, Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi.

Speaking at a press conference at the President's Office on Monday, the President said the Government has not discussed or conducted any research on charging tolls for the bridge.

He noted that while extensive studies were previously carried out on removing tolls from the Sinamalé Bridge, the decision was ultimately maintained. He added that the current administration would continue with the same policy and has no intention of introducing tolls on the Thilamale' Bridge.

The 6.7-kilometre Thilamale' Bridge project, funded through a USD 100 million grant and a USD 400 million line of credit from the Indian Government, is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the Maldives. Once completed, it will connect Malé, Vilimalé, Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi, improving transport and connectivity across the Greater Malé region.
