President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he hopes the flats being constructed in the Malé region under the government's newly launched housing project will be completed by mid-2028.
The President made these remarks today during a press conference at the President's Office in response to a question from a journalist.
The President noted that this is an achievement unprecedented under previous administrations, stating that no prior government had successfully completed housing projects and moved residents into the units within a single term. He emphasized that the current administration aims to change this trend, expressing confidence that a very large percentage of the project will be finished by the middle of 2028.
President Muizzu further highlighted that housing projects in certain outer islands could be finalized even sooner, with some scheduled for completion by the end of next year. He noted that the physical work for the majority of these housing projects will become visibly active within this year.
In addition to the flat construction, the President assured that the reclamation of Rasmalé will be completed, and the allocation of land plots to beneficiaries in that area will be finalized within the current presidential term. He also noted that the process of handing over land plots committed by the previous administration is currently nearing completion.
Reaffirming that housing remains one of the government’s top priorities, the President mentioned that loans have already been issued under the affordable housing scheme. He added that the government plans to expand financial pools to provide even more housing loans in the future.
