The Maldives Police Service will intensify efforts against drug traffickers next year as part of broader initiatives to strengthen public safety, Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihsaan has announced.
Speaking at the ceremony marking the 93rd anniversary of the Maldives Police Service, Minister Ihsaan said police would step up operations targeting drug dealers while continuing efforts to keep criminal gangs under control.
He added that authorities will also focus on locating and deporting around 2,000 undocumented expatriates believed to be residing in the country.
Minister Ihsaan said more police officers equipped with modern technology will be deployed on the streets to enhance public safety.
He stressed that public trust remains the police service's greatest asset and said maintaining that trust depends on integrity, accountability, professionalism, fairness and respectful engagement with the public.
