The Malé City Council has imposed a MVR 5,000 fine on those responsible for safety violations following an accident in which two construction workers fell from a building under construction on Majedhee Magu.
The incident occurred yesterday. The injured workers, a 22-year-old Nepalese national and a 39-year-old Bangladeshi national, were taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for treatment. One has since been discharged, while the other remains hospitalised.
The City Council said its investigation found that mandatory safety measures had not been properly implemented at the construction site, leading to the accident.
The council stressed that construction work carried out without complying with required safety standards is unacceptable and confirmed that a MVR 5,000 fine had been issued to the parties responsible for the breaches.
