Police detained four Maldivians after responding to reports of a disturbance at an apartment in Hulhumalé Phase I early Saturday morning.
Police said they received reports at around 6:05 a.m. of a loud altercation involving intoxicated individuals inside an apartment. Two Maldivian women and two Maldivian men were taken into police custody.
Videos and photographs circulating on social media showed police officers responding to the incident and scenes of a physical altercation among those present.
During a remand hearing at the Criminal Court, the detainees said they were victims who had sustained injuries during the fight. The two women, aged 26 and 29, told the court they had attempted to stop the altercation and that those responsible for the injuries had fled the scene.
The court ordered the two women to be held for five days. A 34-year-old man was remanded for three days, while a 24-year-old man was remanded for five days. According to the court order, the 24-year-old appeared to still be intoxicated when he was produced before the court.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
