Police have launched an investigation into the death of a 14-year-old boy who fell into the sea along with a buggy in ADh.Hangnaameedhoo.
According to police, the incident was reported at around 5:10 p.m. on Friday after the boy drove a buggy into the sea near the Hangnaameedhoo harbour area.
Preliminary findings indicate that the boy had climbed into a parked buggy and drove it, causing the vehicle to enter the water. Police said members of the public at the scene attempted to stop the buggy and prevent the boy from falling into the sea.
The boy was pulled from the water by bystanders and taken immediately to the Hangnaameedhoo Health Centre. However, police said he had already passed away by the time he arrived at the facility.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The boy's funeral prayer was held at midnight.
