President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed two former ministers, Thoriq Ibrahim and Adam Shareef Umar, as ambassadors. The two were presented with their letters of credence at a ceremony held at the President's Office today.
Thoriq has been appointed as the Resident Ambassador of the Maldives to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Under the current administration, Thoriq has previously served as the Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, as well as the Minister of Environment and Tourism.
Adam Shareef has been appointed as the Resident Ambassador of the Maldives to Qatar. Prior to this appointment, Adam Shareef held the cabinet position of Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works.
Both Thoriq and Adam Shareef resigned from their respective ministerial posts to facilitate the cabinet portfolio restructuring desired by the President. Following their resignations from the cabinet, both individuals were initially appointed as Ambassadors-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before being designated to their new diplomatic missions.
