A suspect arrested for attacking Ismail Abdul Raheem (Isu), a Deputy Director at the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), has been remanded in custody for five days.
The Maldives Police Service stated today that the court granted the five-day remand period when the suspect was presented before a judge to determine his detention status.
The violent altercation took place last night at around 18:37 in the Farukolhufushi reclaimed land area of Hulhumalé Phase 2. Both Isu and a 21-year-old man sustained injuries during the incident and were subsequently taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Following their treatment, both individuals were discharged from the hospital. However, immediately upon his release from medical care, the 21-year-old youth was arrested by the police for his direct involvement in the assault against Isu.
The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
