The Criminal Court of Maldives has sentenced two individuals to two years and six months in prison for their involvement in a murder case. The verdict, delivered last Thursday, convicts Aishath Shaira (from Greenlight, ADh. Maamigili) and a man identified as Mohamed Imthiyaz (from Sosunvilla, Th. Madifushi).

The court found both individuals guilty of knowing participation in a murder. The prison sentences were handed down in accordance with Sections 110(a), 30(a)(3), and 30(d) of the Maldives Penal Code, as well as Section 104 of the Criminal Procedure Act. In addition to their jail terms, the ruling orders both Shaira and Imthiyaz to fast for 60 consecutive days as expiation (Kaffarah), pursuant to Section 43(a) and (b) of the judicial sentencing regulations.

The exact details of the crime and the identity of the victim remain unclear, as the Criminal Court withheld the publication of the official case report to protect public moral standards.
