Magistrate court in Addu City has ordered the closure of a property in Maradhoofeydhoo suspected of being used for drug-related activities.

The order, issued by the Maradhoofeydhoo Magistrate Court, requires the closure of the premises known as “Umeedhu” for 90 days starting from yesterday.

According to police, the order was issued under the Drugs Act and marks the first time the Maradhoofeydhoo Magistrate Court has ordered the closure of a location accused of facilitating drug use.

Authorities warned that entering the property without permission during the closure period is a criminal offence. Legal action will also be taken against anyone who unlawfully enters or causes damage to the premises.

Police said efforts to combat drug-related crimes will continue under powers granted by the law. They added that investigations are ongoing to identify and shut down other locations allegedly being used for drug use and trafficking in accordance with legal procedures.
