A modern baggage screening machine has been installed at Maafushi Prison for the first time to strengthen prison security.

According to the Maldives Correctional Service, the machine was donated by MACL. It was officially launched by Minister of Homeland Security Ali Ihusan during a visit to the prison.

The Correctional Service said the machine will enhance safety measures at the facility. Customs officials have also provided training to prison officers on how to operate the equipment.

The screening machine will be used to inspect items brought into the prison by inmates, staff, visitors, and family members. It will also be used to screen parcels and other belongings entering the facility.

Earlier this year, in February, Maafushi Prison also installed a modern body-scanning machine for the first time, marking another step in strengthening security at the prison.
