Voting in the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) chairperson election was disrupted on Saturday following incidents at polling stations in F. Feeali and GDh. Fiyoaree.

In GDh. Fiyoaree, a ballot box was damaged after an individual without official accreditation allegedly entered the polling centre. Although the person reportedly claimed to be an agent of a candidate, officials said he did not possess the required identification and was not listed as a voter.

Meanwhile, voting in F. Feeali was temporarily halted following a dispute over the voter list being used at the polling station. Supporters of candidate Mikaaeel Ahmed Naseem alleged that the list in use was not the official list published by the party. During the dispute, a ballot box was reportedly removed from the polling station.

The election is being contested by Meekail Ahmed Naseem and former President Mohamed Nasheed. A total of 50,176 members are eligible to vote, with polling scheduled to continue until 9:00 p.m.

Vote counting is set to begin immediately after polling closes. The election is being conducted through 241 polling stations across the Maldives, with one overseas polling station established in Sri Lanka.
