The Maldives Zakat House has distributed MVR 5,500 to each person registered in the national list of poor and needy individuals as part of this year’s Zakat-al-Mal distribution.

According to Zakat House, this is the highest amount ever distributed per beneficiary from wealth zakat in the Maldives.

The payments were made to 2,384 people in the registry by the first day of Dhul Hijjah this year. The total amount distributed exceeded MVR 13.1 million.

Last year, each registered beneficiary received MVR 5,000. This year’s amount represents an increase of MVR 500 per person.

Zakat House said the increase was possible because the amount of Zakat-al-Mal collected continues to rise year after year.
