The Ministry of Finance has stated that last year recorded the highest state revenue to date, with the state receiving MVR 39.9 billion in revenue and grants.

According to the budget performance statement released by the Ministry of Finance today, the actual revenue collected in 2025 is an increase of MVR 4.8 billion compared to the MVR 35.1 billion received in 2024. This marks a growth of 13.6 percent.

Noting that the state revenue received last year exceeded initial projections, the Finance Ministry stated that the budget submitted by the ministry on October 31, 2024, had estimated a revenue and grant intake of MVR 39.8 billion for 2025. However, by the end of the year, the actual revenue collected exceeded the forecast by MVR 74.4 million.

The Ministry of Finance highlighted growth in the tourism sector and an increase in non-tax revenue as the primary reasons for the boost in revenue.

It further noted that although revenue from certain sectors fell short of projections, the overall revenue met the budget target due to the gains achieved in other areas.
