Minister of Foreign Affairs Iruthisham Adam has stated that the Maldives will work to further strengthen the close relations it shares with the Commonwealth and enhance cooperation in various fields.

During a visit to Marlborough House, the Commonwealth headquarters in London, United Kingdom, Iruthisham held a meeting with Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey.

In a post on X today, the Minister stated that strengthening the relationship between the Commonwealth and the Maldives is an important effort toward protecting the interests of the Maldives on the international stage.

The Minister also noted that the Maldives is always ready to work together in key areas of mutual priority.

In a post on X, Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchwey praised the initiative demonstrated by the Maldives in advocating for the rights of small island states within the Commonwealth family. Highlighting that the Maldives is an important partner of the Commonwealth, she stated that it was a pleasure to welcome Iruthisham to Marlborough House.

Shirley Botchwey added that she hopes the meeting held with Iruthisham will elevate the relationship between the Commonwealth and the Maldives to new heights in the future.
