The Criminal Court yesterday ordered four out of five individuals arrested for holding a foreigner hostage and assaulting them inside a building under construction in Hulhumalé to be remanded in custody until the end of their trial.
Police stated that following a report received last March regarding a person being held hostage and confined in Hulhumalé, the victim was located and found in Vilimalé during the search. The individual was rescued, given medical attention, and has since been released.
Five Bangladeshi nationals were arrested by the police in connection with the case:
- Md Hossain (30)
- Md Mehedi Hassan (34)
- Md Sha Alam (39)
- Safif Hassan (38)
- Rasal (20)
Following multiple extensions of their remand periods requested by the Prosecutor General's Office, the Criminal Court yesterday ordered all suspects, with the exception of Md Hossain, to be held in remand until the conclusion of the trial.
