The Maldives’ Ambassador to Japan, Ahmed Mahloof, officially presented his credentials to Emperor Naruhito during a ceremony held at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on Monday.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Mahloof conveyed the best wishes of Maldivian President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to the Emperor of Japan. He also reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the Japanese government to strengthen the longstanding friendship between the Maldives and Japan.
Mahloof was appointed ambassador by President Dr Muizzu on December 4, 2025. His appointment was later approved by the People’s Majlis with the support of 60 parliamentarians.
The ambassadorial post had remained vacant following the death of former Maldivian ambassador to Japan, Hassan Sobir.
