The Elections Commission today publicized the final list of voters for the Hithadhoo North constituency by-election of Addu City.

A total of 4,121 people are included in the list.

The Elections Commission has decided to place seven ballot boxes for voting in the by-election scheduled to be held on the sixth of next June.

Out of these, it has been decided to place five boxes in Addu City. The other two boxes are those to be placed in Malé City for residents of that constituency living in Malé City to vote.

Two candidates are competing in this by-election. They are Ahmed Saeed (Soda) contesting from the ruling PNC, and the former mayor of Addu City, Abdulla Sodiq (Sobe), contesting from the opposition MDP.

The Hithadhoo North constituency by-election had to be held following the vacancy of the constituency's seat due to a ruling issued by the Supreme Court.

This followed the Supreme Court's ruling that the seat of the constituency had become vacant after determining that a proven debt was established against Mohamed Sinan, who was serving as the member for the constituency at the time.

Following the loss of the seat, Sinan also won the PNC primary held to select the member who would contest on the PNC ticket in the constituency's by-election.

However, Sinan later decided to relinquish the constituency's ticket to Ahmed Saeed (Soda), who had contested against him and lost in that primary.

Soda received the opportunity to compete in this by-election after Sinan relinquished the ticket.
