Former President Mohamed Nasheed has arrived in Hinnavaru, Lhaviyani Atoll, as part of his campaign for the chairperson post of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Nasheed visited the island on Wednesday, continuing his campaign tour across several islands. Hinnavaru is the birthplace of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

During the visit, Nasheed met residents and visited several homes, including Noorani-aage, the residence linked to former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. He also met Fathimath Mohamed Solih (Fathey), a former secretary to Yameen.

Nasheed is contesting the MDP chairperson election against North Galolhu MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem. Former President Yameen has announced his support for Meekail.

Speaking about the election, Yameen said Nasheed had greatly contributed to the party and the country, but added that he decided to back Mickail after considering the future direction of the party based on his political experience.
