President Dr Mohamed Muizzu says development projects in the Maldives have faced delays over the past two months due to the ongoing war in the Middle East.

Speaking on PSM News’ “Nation Chat” program, the President said rising fuel prices and difficulties in transporting essential materials to the Maldives have affected project progress.

“There are difficulties in getting the necessary materials due to the high cost of fuel. This leads to some delays. But it’s being managed,” the President said.

He added that the President’s Office is closely monitoring the progress of development projects daily in coordination with government ministries.

Highlighting recent infrastructure achievements, the President said more than 1,100 hectares of land have been reclaimed from 21 islands over the past two and a half years. He noted that 500 hectares were reclaimed under the Rasmalé project.

The President also said that although land reclamation is costly, it remains essential for the Maldives’ long-term sustainable development.
