Journalist Leevan Ali Nasir has been released from prison after serving a sentence for contempt of court.
Leevan was convicted over a video documentary published by the newspaper “Adhadhu.” Following the documentary’s release, the court ordered that no direct or indirect content related to it be broadcast, warning that violations could amount to contempt of court.
He was sentenced to 10 days in prison on November 12 and was released from Maafushi Prison at around 10:30 a.m. today.
Mohamed Shahuzan was also arrested in connection with the case. Shahuzan was questioned regarding the documentary involving Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and was sentenced to 15 days in prison for contempt of court.
