President Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Dr Mohamed Mahid Shareef as the Principal Secretary to the President on the Citizens' Complaints Bureau at the President’s Office. He was appointed to the ministerial-level position on 18 May 2026.
Dr Mahid previously served in several senior Government roles, including Permanent Secretary at multiple ministries and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University of Maldives. Before his appointment, he was the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives. He holds a Doctor of Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Public Sector Management.
The Citizens' Complaints Bureau was established to help the Government stay informed about public concerns and respond more effectively. Operating under the President’s Office, the bureau will function 24 hours a day.
President Dr Muizzu first announced plans for the bureau during his Presidential Address to the People’s Majlis on 5 February this year.
The bureau will manage public complaints through a digital system designed to track and address grievances submitted through different channels. It will also coordinate with Government agencies to gather information and provide responses. A 24-hour call centre will also be launched as part of the service.
