President Dr Mohamed Muizzu visited Vaavu to assess ongoing search and rescue operations following a diving tragedy involving Italian nationals.

Authorities at the site briefed the President on efforts to locate four missing individuals after the incident. One person has been confirmed dead.

President Dr Muizzu assured the Maldives National Defence Force Coast Guard dive team and other authorities of the government’s full support and said all necessary arrangements would be made to assist the operation.

The President was accompanied by Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihusaan, Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam, Tourism Minister Mohamed Ameen, and Chief Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef.

The incident involved five Italian nationals during a diving trip in Vaavu.

Following the tragedy, President Dr Muizzu extended condolences to Sergio Mattarella and the people of Italy.
