President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said his administration will remain committed to protecting and upholding Islam in the Maldives.
Speaking at a PNC event held at Harage on Thursday night, the President criticized the policies of the previous two MDP administrations, claiming they were far from Islamic principles. He alleged that individuals involved in preparing an MDN report accused of mocking Islam were given senior positions during former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration.
President Dr Muizzu also accused the administration of former president Mohamed Nasheed of attempting to introduce ideas that contradicted the Quran and Sunnah. He said the people of the Maldives do not want such policies to return.
The President stressed that the Maldives is a 100 percent Islamic nation and said the government would continue to prioritize religion and national interests, regardless of pressure from foreign countries or organizations.
He also said the PNC remains united and strong, adding that attempts to divide the party would not succeed.
