The real intention behind the decision of the three former presidents to work together is to secure an opposition ticket to compete against President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in the 2028 presidential election, according to Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu).

Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office today, Mundhu stated that besides the three former presidents, many figures who had been absent from the political arena for the past two years have emerged with a specific objective in mind.

"As I understand it, they are acting with the intent of securing the tickets to compete against our President when he, God willing, approaches the people to seek a second term in 2028," Mundhu said.Mundhu added that the opposition MDP is already currently embroiled in a rivalry over the presidential ticket.

Following the imprisonment of two journalists for contempt of court regarding a "documentary" produced by an online news outlet, the former Chairperson of the MDP, Fayyaz Ismail, stated that this is the time for the three presidents to come together and save the nation.

Former Presidents Yameen and Nasheed have since responded positively to this call.
