The People's National Congress (PNC) Parliamentary Group (PG) has just decided to submit a motion to Parliament to remove the Member of Parliament for the Dhiggaru constituency, Ahmed Nazim, from his position as Deputy Speaker.
A PNC member of Parliament has confirmed this development to "One."
According to the member, the decision to remove Nazim from the Deputy Speaker post was finalized during a PG meeting held a short while ago. The signatures required to submit the motion have also been collected.
The move to remove Nazim comes after he was expelled earlier today from his party's official WhatsApp group.
He was removed from the group at approximately 6:00 AM today. Several PNC members of Parliament confirmed this to "One," though they did not specify the reason for his expulsion. This WhatsApp group includes President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and PNC members of Parliament, with President Muizzu serving as the group's admin.
In addition to being removed from the Parliamentary Group’s WhatsApp chat, Nazim was removed last month from the two most powerful committees in Parliament: the Public Accounts Committee and the Committee on National Security Services (241 Committee).
Rumors had previously circulated that the PNC was seeking to remove Nazim from the post of Deputy Speaker following the party's setbacks in the Local Council Elections and the national referendum. At the time, there were reports that signatures were being gathered for a no-confidence motion, though the PNC had denied those claims at the time.
