Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has said that 57 illegal businesses have been shut down as part of an ongoing operation targeting undocumented expatriates in the Maldives.
Speaking at a press conference at the President’s Office, Saeed said the task force conducting the operation includes officials from the Economic Ministry, Immigration, police, and other relevant agencies.
According to the Minister, authorities have searched 242 establishments and closed 102 since November. A total of 409 complaints related to expatriates have also been received.
Among the closures were 57 illegal businesses and 45 salons and spas.
Saeed added that 61 establishments were later allowed to reopen after making the necessary improvements and meeting required standards.
