The safari vessel "Emperor Explorer," which caught fire yesterday, has sunk. The Hulhumalé Fire Station was active yesterday afternoon responding to the fire on the safari, which was located between Kurumba Village and Hulhumalé.
Police stated that information regarding a fire on a safari anchored outside the Hulhumalé lagoon was reported yesterday around 4:55 PM.
MNDF reported that the vessel sank last night at approximately 5:03 AM while efforts were still underway to extinguish the fire. The safari, which was burnt to ashes before sinking, was a 35-bed vessel.
This was the second fire incident at sea yesterday.
The first incident yesterday occurred on a boat near Gulhifalhu. MNDF stated that the fire, which broke out in the boat's engine room around 1:30 PM, was extinguished by 2:45 PM. Although there were five people on board when that incident occurred, they managed to evacuate onto another boat.
