The land reclamation required for the development of an airport in Sh. Milandhoo has been successfully completed. The agreement for the airport project was signed between the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development, and the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to Shaviyani Atoll in October last year.
In a post on X today, the President announced that the reclamation work was completed in just 31 days. The project, which officially commenced on April 3rd, reached 100 percent completion yesterday.
A total of 21 hectares of land were reclaimed as part of this initiative. The President's post further detailed that the work was carried out using the "Queen of the Netherlands" dredger, which has a capacity of 35,000 cubic meters. The total volume of sand used for the project amounted to 1,134,534 cubic meters.
