Hulhumalé North MP Hussain Shareef, a member of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), has stated that questions must be raised regarding the responsibilities of Home Minister Ali Ihusaan in light of current national events. MP Shareef made these remarks during a parliamentary debate on a resolution calling for expedited action to stop political activities that violate the Constitution and the Political Parties Act.
Speaking on the resolution submitted by Holhudhoo MP Abdul Sattar Mohamed, MP Shareef argued that one of the most significant issues facing the country is the failure of state institutions to function in accordance with the laws designed to protect fundamental rights and the structure of the state. He emphasized that this is a reality that must be acknowledged.
The MP highlighted that while the executive power originates from the people, the protection and dignity of the Head of State are constitutionally guaranteed. He criticized state institutions for remaining "asleep" while unsubstantiated rumors and serious allegations against the President are published and circulated.
MP Shareef noted that grave accusations have been leveled against the President for several days without any legal basis or evidence. He pointed out that videos and various narratives are being produced based on hearsay rather than factual foundations. He concluded by stating that even though the Minister belongs to the current government, questions regarding the Home Minister's performance must be raised because of the apparent inaction of law enforcement and regulatory bodies in addressing these matters.
