Three Candidates Vie for MDP Chairperson Role

Three candidates have officially applied for the chairperson post of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), with elections scheduled for June 12.

According to the party’s Elections Committee, those contesting are Mohamed Nasheed from Male’, Ibrahim Mohamed from Fonadhoo, and Mickail Ahmed Naseem from Male’.

Former parliamentarian Alhan Fahmy initially announced his candidacy but later withdrew and endorsed Mickail.

Although three candidates are in the race, the campaign has largely centered on Nasheed and Mickail, with growing rivalry between the two camps. The contest has also seen heated exchanges and criticism between supporters of both factions within the party.
