The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has announced that heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected across the country over the next two days.

Meteorologist Abdulla Hafiz told "One" today that the forecasted heavy rainfall increases the likelihood of flooding in several islands. He noted that tomorrow is expected to be particularly rainy for all regions of the Maldives, with a high chance of localized flooding.

Average wind speeds are expected to range between 5 and 15 mph, though gusts could increase to approximately 30 mph during showers. While seas are generally expected to be moderate, they may become rough during squalls.

In its forecast valid until 18:00 today, the MET Office predicted scattered showers and thunderstorms across the country. Winds are expected from the southwest and west at speeds of 8 to 18 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 35 mph. Wave heights are estimated to remain between three and five feet.
