Former Maldivian defender Sobah Mohamed has been appointed as head coach of the Maldives women’s national team for the upcoming SAFF Women’s Championship.
The tournament will be held in Margao, Goa, with matches played at Fatorda Stadium from June 25. Maldives will compete in Group B alongside India and Bangladesh.
Maldives has participated in the SAFF Women’s Championship eight times, with its best performance coming in 2016 when the team reached the semi-finals after defeating Bhutan and Sri Lanka in the group stage.
Sobah, who has led the women’s team since 2018, brings extensive coaching experience. He has previously coached clubs including New Radiant, Club Green Streets, and Club Valencia, as well as the Maldives U-23 national team.
India, a five-time champion, and defending champions Bangladesh are expected to be strong in the group.
