An expatriate has been arrested on suspicion of possessing and dealing alcohol. The Maldives Police Service identified the suspect as MD Rajib Ali, a 35-year-old Bangladeshi national.
The arrest took place during a joint operation conducted by Drug Enforcement and Counter-Narcotics Intelligence on the 22nd of this month. Police stated that the suspect was intercepted on a street in Malé, and a search revealed 35 bottles of alcohol in his possession.
Following the completion of necessary legal procedures, the suspect has been handed over to Maldives Immigration for deportation from the country. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
